On the western slope of the Mali i Gjerë mountain range in Albania, water bubbles up under high pressure from a spring pot. Set against the pale limestone, the water is a deep blue in the sunlight, giving the spring its name: Syri i Kaltër (Blue Eye). Divers are said to have descended to fifty metres, but the true depth of the karst hole is still a mystery.
